My story

It starts with one question

One question has guided my life for as long as I can remember.

Why do some people heal while others keep struggling? Why does one approach work beautifully for one person and fail another? What if the answers are not found in another across the board quick fix for symptoms, but in uncovering root causes and understanding the connections that make each person unique?

The search for answers has taken me on an incredible journey. For nearly 30 years, while building a career in the business world, I also followed a lifelong passion for nutrition, natural health, and the remarkable ability of the human body to heal.

“Nutrition was my avocation long before it became my vocation.”

One of the most valuable lessons I carried out of the business world is the importance of weighing costs against benefits. Every health decision has both benefits and trade offs. My goal is to help you find the approach where the benefits outweigh the costs, while honoring your unique genetic predispositions, environmental exposures, and personal preferences.

The desire to gather more tools to help people find their answers eventually led me back to school to make nutrition and health my full focus. Along the way I earned multiple degrees, including a PhD in Holistic Nutrition and a Doctor of Clinical Nutrition. While I value science and evidence based practice, I have always been fascinated by the wisdom in ancient natural healing traditions, and by helping each person discover the approach that fits their own needs and circumstances.

I also spent several years homeschooling my three children before they left for college. They taught me that every person learns differently, grows at their own pace, and does best when they feel understood, supported, and encouraged to think for themselves. They taught me far more than I taught them, and their influence shaped how I counsel and teach. Changing behavior, healing, and learning all take tools, skills, and support.

Today I serve as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, an Integrative and Holistic Health Counselor, a Clinical Assistant Professor, and a speaker. My work focuses on the connections between nutrition, lifestyle, stress, habits, relationships, and overall wellbeing. Whether I am with patients, students, or an audience, my goal is not simply to hand over information. I want to help people make sense of what is happening in their health and their lives, so they can make informed choices with more confidence, and with the hope that there are always answers when you keep digging for connections and root causes.

Whether I am teaching, counseling, writing, or just enjoying a quiet moment, you will often find me at my solar powered log cabin in rural North Carolina, surrounded by animals and nature. Living close to the natural world reminds me again and again that healing is rarely about quick fixes. More often it is a journey of understanding, and of working with the body rather than against it.

I don't believe in one size fits all nutrition. I believe your best path to health is as unique as you are, and that real, lasting health comes from understanding the connections that shape it and making informed choices from there.

My mission

To give you the knowledge, tools, and support to make informed choices, discover your own path to healing, and Skyrocket Your Health through nutrition and natural health.
